We are an independent drainage survey company. We do not carry out drain repairs. What Equipment Do We Use?

We use the same class of inspection equipment as water company drainage teams. Engineers carry sonde transmitters for pipe tracing, enabling drain routes and depths to be mapped without excavation.

HD footage is processed to extract annotated still images at every point of interest — not just defects, but pipe junctions, chamber conditions, and areas of potential concern. This footage is hosted securely and delivered alongside the written report, giving you video evidence you can access at any time from any device.

Why Does WRC-Standard Reporting Matter?

The Water Research Centre (WRC) condition coding system is the nationally recognised standard for drain survey reporting in England and Wales. WRC grades — running from Grade 1 (structural failure) to Grade 5 (no defect) — give all parties to a property transaction a shared, unambiguous reference for drain condition.

London's property market is particularly demanding in this respect. Solicitors involved in Central London conveyancing, mortgage lenders underwriting high-value properties, and insurers dealing with subsidence and flood claims all require WRC-graded reports as a minimum standard. Informal reports — those that describe defects in general terms without WRC coding — are routinely rejected. Why Is Independence Important?

Many drainage companies that offer CCTV surveys also carry out drain repairs. This creates an inherent conflict of interest: a survey that finds no significant defects generates no repair income. Independent surveys — where the surveying company has no financial interest in the repair outcome — remove this conflict entirely.

When we issue a repair recommendation, it is because the WRC-graded defect warrants it — not because we will benefit from carrying out the work.
